Scar Therapy
Changing Lives For The Better
Helping To Care For Your Scar & Underlying Tissue
Our bodies are amazing machines built to adapt to whatever is thrown its way it still can heal but what the body uses to fill those gaps, scar tissue can really cause some problems. Scars don’t lay themselves down in a uniformly way. It’s mishmash of collagen fibres that cause pain, discomfort, and reduce range of motion due to the lack of elasticity for many years. Scars can also disrupt and block lymph flow which can lead to increased oedema.
Scar Therapy treatment can help care for your scar and the underlying tissue. We can focus on issues related to a surgery or trauma injury such as:
- Pain after surgery or injury
- Limited movement or tightness
- Pulling or puckering
- Fibrous scar tissue or scar adhesions
Your appointment will include a special scar massage at the right pace and pressure to suit you – plus useful advice for caring for your scar at home, and treatment to support your general wellbeing with my existing physical therapy skills.
A scar therapy appointment in the first 6 months after a scar is created is really helpful (even if you are not experiencing any unwanted complications) but it’s never too late to benefit from scar treatment.
Scar Therapy has been developed to:
- Stimulate changes in scars, both on the skin surface, and any adhesions or fibrosis in the underlying tissue
- Promote functional and cosmetic improvements after surgery or injury
- Reduce common symptoms, such as pain and sensitivity
- Assess and treat any associated functional changes
- Support emotional wellbeing after a surgery or trauma
