Manual Lymph Drainage
Encourages Lymph Fluid To Drain Away From A Swollen Area
Certified Dr. Vodder Manual Lymph Drainage Therapist
We use the Vodder method of Manual Lymph Drainage (MLD) a unique method developed in Europe in the 1930s and is recognised worldwide as the gold standard of MLD techniques today.
The gentle, rhythmic, pumping movements stimulate the movement of lymphatic fluid in the direction of the lymph flow. The technique focuses primarily on key areas of the body where the bulk of the lymph nodes and lymphatic vessels are found, decreasing swelling, inflammation and supporting immunity as well as activating the parasympathetic nervous system, naturally reducing stress and anxiety.
It takes a highly trained professional to perform the therapy properly as a very specific amount of pressure needs to be applied to stimulate the lymphatic system. It is important to note that MLD is very different to therapeutic/remedial massage, we only activate the system that is just below the surface of the skin. If too much pressure is used the lymphatics will not work.
To maintain a high standard and level of competence Vodder MLD Practitioners are reviewed every two years.

Will i notice immediate results?
When MLD is not suitable
- Any untreated malignancy
- Cardiac insufficiency
- Acute thrombosis
- Acute allergy
- Acute infection / inflammation
- First pregnancy trimester
How does MLD effect the body?
The skin displacement carried out by MLD dilates the nearest lymph collectors, this increases the pulse / contraction rate of the vessel and in turn speeds up the flow and drainage of lymph fluid.
In the case where there are lymph nodes missing or a blockage caused by another reason there are techniques the practitioner can use to cross watersheds and send lymph fluid to another drainage site.
Is MLD painful?
MLD for drainage and detox
It can be very effective at stimulating the metabolic system and reducing fluid retention. Our body becomes as efficient as possible at filtering out the ‘junk’ and absorbing nutrients.
